Revitalization of Vacant Commercial Strip Malls

Many cities within the United States, including Cincinnati, Ohio, have been experiencing a decrease in commercial retail shopping, especially in commercial strip malls. Many of these sites have been in decline since the COVID-19 pandemic when online shopping became the normal way to shop. Due to this decline, the majority of these spaces have become vacant and in disrepair. This capstone project focuses on the process of turning these dying spaces within urban settings and repurposing and revitalizing them into new and vibrant spaces that will enhance and benefit the surrounding communities and the City of Cincinnati as a whole. This project stemmed from researching the 2024 American Planning Association (APA) trends of "The Changing Evolution of Work and Retail" and "Housing Solutions."
