The locally selected Magnolia grandiflora Polar Vortex® requires documented proof of cultivation in commerce to maintain an active plant patent. Without evidence of propagation and market availability, patent protections may be lost. Locally selected plants are better adapted to regional conditions, easier to maintain, and more resilient. This capstone examines the sustainability value and propagation of Polar Vortex®, developed at Boone County Arboretum.
